You and I
are a dance of distances
We hide behind the shadows,
Occasionally cloaked in darkness,
but sometimes we surface to the light.
And there I see you,
and there you see me,
and while we gaze at each other
with these eyes
that have been diluted with
the potent touch of time,
I feel the smallest tendril
touch my beating heart.
The emotion left from the past we had.
Because, in my eyes
you never were a stranger.
How could a stranger have kept my heart?
The affections float like motes,
Swimming around our eyes,
But after a small moment
Of those memories, the pain,
We smile our strangers’ smiles
and drift back to the dark.
